In A Nutshell

You'll have a good time in Dunwoody, GA, whether you live in this northern Atlanta suburb or just come to spend a few days. There's plenty to like about it, from shopping at trendy Perimeter Mall to zip lining through the treetops at Treetop Quest.” The interactive outdoor center offers fun for the whole family in an environmentally friendly setting. There's enough culture to keep you occupied, with some of the fun centered around Lemonade Days, Butterfly Days, Apple Cider Days and the Dunwoody Arts Festival.

Walking, Biking, or Driving

The outdoors rule in Dunwoody: Hike, run or bicycle through local parks, spend quality time with family in local playgrounds and meandering streams, or simply spend leisure time in your own backyard with loved ones. When you want to get to the city, it's easy to ride the MARTA rail to the heart of Atlanta, or take the highway in any direction for an excursion farther from home.

The Scene

The historic heart of the community is the Dunwoody Farmhouse, and this may still be a farming community at heart. Get up close and personal with food grown on local farms, locally-baked breads and "good-as-Grandma's" jams and jellies, express your inner artist at the Spruill Center for the Arts or help save the world through environmental programs at the Dunwoody Nature Center. This tiny town with a big appetite for life was incorporated as a city in 2008.

The Backstory

As a northern suburb of Atlanta, Dunwoody was incorporated as a city on December 1, 2008 but its area establishment dates back to the early 1830s. One of Dunwoody's most historic buildings dates from 1829. The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, at the corner of Roberts Drive and Spalding Drive, is still active to this date and is also the home to one of the city's oldest cemeteries, where many of the founding fathers of Dunwoody are buried.
